Invisalign is a discreet Orthodontic technique which uses a series of custom-made aligners to gradually move crooked, crowded or gappy teeth to an improved position.
These innovative aligners can also be taken out, so you can maintain your oral hygiene as normal, eat whatever you choose and remove them for special occasions.
- Almost invisible
Step 1 – If you are a suitable candidate, your dentist will take digital impressions and photos, and collect other information about your teeth. They then use special 3D technology to create a personalised plan, which shows how your teeth will move and also how they will look after treatment.
Step 2 – When the aligners are ready, you will wear a different one every two weeks until the carefully controlled force shifts your teeth to a better position.
Step 3 – Treatment times will vary depending on your individual issue, but most cases are completed in 6-12 months. We recommend they are kept in place for 22–24 hours per day, as this will ensure the aligners are moving your teeth as scheduled.
You may feel minor discomfort when a new aligner is fitted but this is usually just a feeling of pressure and a good indicator that the treatment is working.
Following treatment, as with all orthodontic methods, you will need to wear a retainer to stop your teeth moving back to their former position.

Invisalign Teen is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teen’s teeth without the restrictions that come with metal braces. Rather than wires and brackets, Invisalign® uses a series of clear, removable aligners that have been custom-made for your teen’s teeth. Your teen simply wears them over their teeth and changes them out for a new set of aligners every two weeks. Little by little, your teen’s teeth gradually shift into place, achieving that confident smile.
IS INVISALIGN AS EFFECTIVE AS TRADITIONAL BRACES?
Yes. When worn according to the recommendations of an experienced Invisalign-trained orthodontist, Invisalign Teen can be as effective as traditional braces for the most common teeth-straightening issues. Invisalign can effectively treat mild to severe cases, including underbite, overbite, overcrowding and gaps between teeth. The chances are very high that your teen will be a great candidate for Invisalign. To find out for sure, locate a certified Invisalign Teen orthodontist in your area at invisalign.com/find-a-doctor and go in for a consultation.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR INVISALIGN TEEN?
Invisalign can be used for teens who have erupting or erupted permanent dentition—this includes most teenagers. A trained Invisalign orthodontist should evaluate your teen’s specific dental issues to determine candidacy. If the orthodontist rejects your teen as a candidate, it is advisable to seek a second opinion, as each provider has a different level of experience treating with Invisalign. To find an experienced Invisalign orthodontist, log on to invisalign.com/find-a-doctor and look for doctors in your area with the Invisalign Teen logo. Your teen will thank you for making that extra effort!
HOW LONG DOES INVISALIGN TEEN TREATMENT TAKE?
The average treatment time is about the same as with traditional braces, but the actual length of your teen’s treatment depends on the severity of their condition and can only be determined by your orthodontist.
