Preventative

Preventative dentistry is a fundamental part of your dental care at The White Bridge Clinic. By focusing on prevention, any treatment you may need in the future will be simpler, more comfortable, long lasting and cheaper. Furthermore, a healthy mouth has been proven to have huge health benefits for your general wellbeing.

Periodontal (gum disease) is the biggest reason for tooth loss. Whilst there are many factors that contribute to gum disease there is one thing that is required to make it happen- bacteria.

During your hygiene visits, you will be assessed for dental disease risks and bespoke preventative education and advice will be given accordingly. Once the mouth is free from inflammation, careful cleaning of the teeth to remove hardened deposits (such as tartar and calculus) will be carried out in a comfortable approach.

Whilst it is important to see dental professionals regularly, we believe it is also vital to develop an effective daily home care routine including:

  • Brushing twice a day and cleaning between teeth with floss or interdental brushes
  • Give up smoking as it develops gum problems, cancer and causes staining
  • Avoid frequent sugary snacks and drinks
  • Encouraging your children to start looking after their teeth as early as possible
