How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear aligners which gently straighten your teeth and transform your smile.

Initial Consultation

At your first appointment, we will examine your teeth and take 3D scans and images to ensure your aligners have a precise and accurate fit. We can use the latest technology to provide an image of how your smile will look at the end of your treatment!

ClinCheck & Treatment Plan

Scans and images taken of your teeth are used to create your bespoke treatment plan. Using the innovative ClinCheck software, we can show you how your teeth will shift position step by step throughout the course of your treatment.

Gradual Straightening

Each aligner in the series will be worn for 1-2 weeks before progressing to the next one. Gradually, with each aligner, your teeth shift incrementally until your envisioned smile is achieved. The aligners control the amount and timing of movement, carefully adhering to your bespoke treatment plan, ensuring each stage of treatment goes smoothly. Regular 6–8-week appointments allow for us to closely monitor your progress and make any minor adjustments when needed, guaranteeing a successful outcome.

Smile!

After completing your treatment plan and wearing you last aligner, you can show off your newly straightened smile to the world! We will give you a retainer to help your teeth remain in their final position in the long term.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Treatment length varies from person to person, but most Invisalign treatments are completed within 9-18 months. Simple cases have a faster treatment time, whilst patients needing more complex straightening can expect to wear their aligners for longer. Once you have had your initial consultation, we can advise you of your expected treatment length.
Is Invisalign as effective as traditional braces?
Yes. When worn according to the recommendations of an experienced Invisalign-trained orthodontist, Invisalign Teen can be as effective as traditional braces for the most common teeth-straightening issues. Invisalign can effectively treat mild to severe cases, including underbite, overbite, overcrowding and gaps between teeth. The chances are very high that your teen will be a great candidate for Invisalign. To find out for sure, contact the clinic and come in for a consultation.
Are the aligners comfortable?
Yes, Invisalign aligners have been designed with comfort in mind, enabling you to easily wear them for the vital 20-22 hours a day. They fit securely over the teeth and have no metal brackets or wires to irritate the skin or gums.
Can Invisalign be used to correct all types of dental misalignments?
Invisalign can be used to treat a multitude of orthodontic problems, including most cases of misalignment. However, Invisalign does have its limitations and there are some extreme cases that would mean Invisalign may not be an option for you. Your orthodontist will be able to give you the best option for you at your initial consultation.
How much does Invisalign cost and does health insurance cover it?
The cost of treatment depends on each individual case, with complex cases needing more aligners and therefore will be more expensive. We can give you the exact treatment cost based on the assessment we carry out during your initial consultation. Your own medical insurance plans may cover some of the Invisalign treatment cost, but you would need to speak with your policy provider directly regarding this. We do also offer payment plans and finance options to help you spread the cost of treatment.
How do I take care of my aligners?
The best way to take care of your aligners is to make sure you clean them often. You can do this by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water and using the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals or other special cleaning tablets. It’s very important that you brush your teeth after every meal or snack before re-inserting your aligners to maintain good oral hygiene.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
You may find it takes a few days to get used to the aligners, and may have a slight lisp at first, but you should be talking clearly and confidently before long.
What is an Invisalign Platinum Provider?
Invisalign uses a system to categorise providers based on their experience and the number of successful cases they have achieved. A Platinum Provider is considered an Invisalign expert, so your smile is in safe hands!
Will I need to wear retainers after my treatment?
Yes, you will need to wear retainers to keep your teeth in their new position following your Invisalign treatment. Teeth have a habit of moving out of place, so you will need to wear retainers for some of the day (usually overnight) for as long as you wish your teeth to stay straight. You will be given a fixed or removable retainer.
